That's gay af. Must be the import laws. It's common in Canada.
Giving it a bit more thought, I think it just might be supply and demand. No semi autos force us to practice sharp shooting. Thus we dont spew out 300 rounds if we go to the range.
I have had range days where I go through over 700 rounds pistol alone ;)

You COULD do that with a pistol here too. Except....
The requirements for a pistol license is EXTREMELY heavy. You need to attended competitions REGULARLY. In my state I think its 4 times a year, but you must visit the range for a recorded event every month? or two. For the first... Long time... you can only get an air pistol or a 22lr pistol. After a ... long time... You can apply for a bigger pistol.
In short, no one wants pistols here. Ownership is very low.
