I've owned rifles thus far, but this will be my first handgun. I've fired a number of pistols, mostly revolvers, in a number of calibers; I've liked .45 ACP the most so far. That's a good point about developing habits, though.
Does the FN FNX-45 have a variable pressure trigger? That is, does it only fire if you pull back on the trigger quickly? That's a feature that I don't really enjoy.
Nope, I got the FNX-45 tactical. Clean trigger break with a short crisp reset. They do come with a metric ass-tonne of packing grease pumped into every crevice so I would do a full tare-down and clean because before that the trigger feels a little gritty and mushy. I took mine apart all the way and gave it a legit 1 hour cleansing/ lube and when I shot it for the first time is was oozing out brown packing grease out of the slide release and decocker after one mag. Seems like Sig/CZ/FN all apply bucket of packing grease at the factory.
