I'm well aware you can miss with a shotgun. The neighbor's dog was being attacked by a stray pit, and I ran down the yard with my 12 ga. loaded with 00. After separating the dogs, my adrenaline was peak at this point, the other dog started running away and I took aim, fired, and missed. Pretty lame, but it taught me that lesson.
