If you want to go single shot why not add a muzzleloader into your inventory? They give you a couple of extra seasons to hunt with.

Muzzle loader is on the list for deer but, correct me if I am wrong, I believe they cannot read out to 500yrds to get an elk.

Some can reach well past a thousand yards.
