No, you have no firearms. They were all lost in tragic boating accidents. In fact, you cannot even remember the last time you've handled a firearm.
good point, i fear as soon as I buy it i have another boating excursion planned

I have one in 30-06, love it. Can't take it to the range because everyone wants to look at it and touch it and some even ask to shoot it. I have a very old and nice one. I haven't seen how the new ones stack up.
Thank you for sharing
Ruger No. 1 in .300 Win-mag is available with a .26 inch barrel - fits the criteria you mention below, but the price tag is a bit high. IMO if you want to reliably take elk at 500 yards, you'll want a bit more energy than the 1,000 ft.-lb minimum conventional wisdom and some state's hunting regulations dictate. While some .30-06 loads @ 180 grains plus achieve 1,200 ft-lb at that distance, .300 Win-mag can easily get you over the 1,500 ft-lb mark. Actually the single shot concept makes good sense at this distance.
Good point, oof another caliber to stock, and reload.
Whatever you get, be careful in the boats. Lots of those around here having boating accidents and lose all their guns.
No. Get a Tikka. If you are poor buy it used off of gunbroker. End conversation.
Tikka's are great rifles and their T3x lite is cheaper than the Ruger, I'd prefer a longer barrel than 22. Looking for 24-26 in 30-06.
All three of these are 23.7" in 30-6.

You might as well go vegan
I am a better shot than that, or are you knocking Ruger?
Try this instead
damn dude, I like to eat Bambi. If your having issues with deer in your yard, get a big dog, or they have motion activated sprinklers (they keep people off your lawn as well)
If you want to go single shot why not add a muzzleloader into your inventory? They give you a couple of extra seasons to hunt with.
Muzzle loader is on the list for deer but, correct me if I am wrong, I believe they cannot read out to 500yrds to get an elk.
Some can reach well past a thousand yards.
You should get one in .577 Tyrannosaurus. And if they don’t make that you should pay to have it made.
I don't know, should you?
It depends on whether you need to fill your list of personal accomplishments or fill your freezer. You will surely learn patience and accuracy.
I have been lucky to knock down all my deer with one shot, some I did finish with a knife.
