Where did you get the technical manual?

It came with the rifle, actually. Pretty cool, and my dad enjoyed knowing more about something than me. He recited parts of it.

I would like to find one for my father. He like to claim he was the last group to qualify with the M14

I've actually seen them all over. Fulton Armory is great for M14/M1A and Garand parts and accessories. This isn't exactly mine, but close. https://www.fulton-armory.com/m14-technical-manual.aspx

Yeah, I qualified with the M14 in 1971 when I went through Boot Camp in San Diego. Now I own a Scout Squad and a SOCOM 16 CQB. I don't remember it being so heavy...
