Just got me an old-school Fudd style killing machine and am looking for parts, accessories, tips, advice, etc. Hell, I'm just excited and want to talk about it.

Any M14, M1A, or M1 Garand fans on board? Any in PA that know a good long range range? Like, 1,000 yards long range, within an hour of Harrisburg PA?

What grease do you use? Any helpful modifications to consider? I'm not very tacticool so mostly talking modifications like a better operating rod or better recoil spring, shit like that.

When I say Fudd I just mean I like wood grain. We should be able to own full auto and infinite magazine capacities. Shall not be infringed. There's a period at the end.

M1 Garand fan here. You want Duragard Lubriplate. Buy a tub and you're set for life: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0876H4TGT

Check if your gun is original 30-06 or was rechambered into .308 by the Navy or CMP to lower ammo costs. If you're shooting 30-06, stay under 174 grain and avoid bubba's pissin hawt reloads. Higher grain or powder charges do exist and are intended for bolt actions, not the Garand. They wont blow your gun up, but can damage the op rod and leave you out $100 for a new rod and with ammo you can't use.

That definitely settles it on the grease, it's what everyone says. Thanks!

I've actually only got an M1A. I am looking for a complete, fairly original, good condition Garand, though, so happy to hear any tips on finding them. I was looking into this Civilian Marksmanship Program to try to get one, know much about that?

The CMP is a great way for Americans to get their hands on an M1 Garand at below market prices. They sell various grades on their website: https://thecmp.org/sales-and-service/m1-garand/ if you want a good condition shooter, order an "Expert Grade" rifle. Everything but the receiver has been replaced, so it'll function great. $1150 the last time I checked. If you want more original, service grades are $900.

If you're a collector who values original barrels and fixing 70 year old guns, field and service grades are an option.

The ordering process is straightforward:

1) Print out their mail order form.

2) Provide proof of membership in a gun or collectors club. If you're in a hurry, the Garand Collectors Association is $35.

3) Go get it notarized.

4) Mail them the form and wait 4-8 weeks (it's a volunteer org...they're busy) for your M1 Garand to be shipped. The first one you order each year comes with a free case. Most non-Commie states dont even require a FFL and can ship straight to your home because the CMP predates that nonsense.

Holy hell, that's great info man, I didn't realize it was that simple, or cheap. How many do you have at this point, you seem to know your shit about CMP, and are talking about the first one that year. At that price I would understand.

Holy shit they do 1911's too! I need to go learn more about this organization.
