Because bulk FMJ training ammo goes bang 99% of the time and cost less than half what good ammo does. The other 1% of the time, Poal gets a picture.
If your good carry ammo only goes bang 99% of the time, you're picking the worst thing to cheap out on.
Same thing with your firearm which is why I always tell those familiar with guns it's a terrible idea to carry a p80 unless it's cycled several thousand rounds without issue.
If you load your own its substantially more cost effective.
Depends on the cartridge. Obscure rifle cartridges? Absolutely. Common handgun cartridges like .38 special, 9mm Luger, etc? Doubtful.
Depends on when you bought. I can load 223 for like 15 cents a round. I should have bought 9mm reloading stuff as well. I have enough of it to get me until the next time prices are reasonable again.
I can load 300 BO subs for 40 cents a round. 6.5 Creedmoor about the same.
9mm is absurdly cheap right now. Particularly compared to a couple years ago.

Carry ammo is significantly more consistent than training ammo plus the extra cost of machining the hollow point and petals, it also usually has more boom behind the round.
I was going to say it is probably has to do with the hollow point. You don't want your round penetrating beyond the intended target. If you miss, you hope it isn't going throughs walls etc.
It's more than 1 in 1000. I go through a LOT of new FMJ from reputable manufacturers (Sellior & Belliot, Blazer, PPU, etc) and see at least a couple failures in each case.
