A buddy showed me the Hi-Point C9 he just bought and I'm...baffled. Who is the target market for this?

Clunky safety that I'd hate to use under pressure.

If you lock the slide back on an empty mag, joke's on you, you cant release the slide without dropping the mag (why???).

Ergonomics are unimpressive.

Aesthetics are 0/10.

I completely understand form over function handguns (most revolvers), and function over form (Glocks, SA's "totally not a Glock wink wink" XD9, etc), but Hi-Points are neither aesthetic nor functional. Why do people buy these?

The handguns are...yeah...I will never make excuses for them, espeically when there are plenty of other makers like Taurus or Bersa who offer similar weapons for the same price that aren't dog shit. But the carbines? They're a pretty awesome home defense weapon, or ranch gun. The 9mm loaded with good +P expanding ammo gives the benefits of a shotguns or rifles longer sight plane, but shorter overall length for easy corridor control and quick target acquisition. If you go with the larger calibers, like the 10mm version, suddenly you have a very powerful semi auto cartridge that someone who is smaller or recoil sensitive can handle. I won't argue that there are better PCCs on the market, but for the price, the carbines are a fantastic buy, and you don't feel bad using it as a knock-about weapon that will be battered and dinged when you throw it in the truck or ATV.

Oh yeah, they're fun as shit to shoot, too. The heavier build of their carbines means you can shoot semi auto calibers with the same recoil as a 22 rifle would have. Pew pew pew!

A CZ 75B is a heavy 9mm that is fun to shoot that actually looks good and works very well.

Wasn't defending the hi point handgun. Said the opposite actually. I'm defending their carbine, which the CZ is not. Sometimes you just need a rifle platform, and don't need a more powerful cartridge. Like I said, truck or ranch gun. Works great in the plains for stuff like coyotes, prairie dogs, snakes, etc. Hell, the 10mm would even be a decent brush gun against Non-Grizzly bears and other predators

Because some kind of gun beats no kind of gun.

First rule of gunfighting: Have a gun.

Watch the demo ranch episode where he tests the Hi-point. For being a clunky cheap piece of shit, it virtually stood up to everything they threw at it and it still shot. Even with the slide damaged it still shot. Barrel full of dirt? Yep. Barrel full of concrete? Watch and find out.

Agreed it's shit but cannot say it's unreliable when needed.

As someone else sad, a cheap gun is still better than no gun.

I don't personally own one but I would definitely feel ok having one as a truck gun or something to toss somewhere for emergencies. Hell, for the cost, a guy could bury 10 out in the woods for just Incase and feel just fine that they are out there.
