Second amendment has been perverted by both sides.
It was written by the founders so that people could arm and defend themselves:
Against criminals (handgun is enough) Against potential civil war or other disaster causing anarchy (military weapons)
The "well regulated militia" meant that people would have to acquire military skills like be fit, obey their commanders and live austere life (living in barracks, marching, doing exercices, learning to shoot etc.) Guns don't healp you in a conflict if you don't have military skills so you have to acquire them.
In my country we have a mandatory military training for every male citizen for this reason and good luck getting a gun pemit without one.
Our govenment isn't retarded enough to give guns to people who can't use it. But it is not in America but in Europe which has different governing tradition which is not based in individual freedoms like USA was founded as.
USAns obviously built their government with freedom in mind and banned gun control so that if government became evil (like it is now) it couldn't disarm them).
Just my two cents. I hate obese morons with 1000 gun collection as much as I hate "guns must be banned" morons since they are defiling the purpose of the 2nd amendment.
