I'm torn between wanting absolute freedom of firearms... and knowing JUST how stupid most people are.
You see, I help with CCW classes (in a constitutional carry state, but not all are and the reciprocity is nice) as a line officer. The number of times people try to point the muzzle at me after 8 weeks of classes is astounding. Mostly because I'm DIRECTLY behind them, so they would have to sweep half the room to get there. Women are worse in the early weeks, men are the worst overall (and the only ones we ever fail basic competency ~ 100% of the time they're the ones that talk like they know it all).
I really don't like the knowledge that those people are all around me. I'm certain that I will be shot by one of those people who should never, EVER, be allowed to even hold a firearm. So I like an education gateway... which is my conflict. Doesn't matter though because I'm not a lawmaker and don't influence anyone.
If you haven't taken some sort of course or class this year, do it in the next year. No point in owning something that you suck using. Always fun to be completely humiliated by some unassuming person, only to learn they put in 20~40 hours a week training.
8 weeks of classes
The heck? You could teach a retard to CCW in a day.
I was given my older brothers BB gun at 4 and was told how to use it and what not to do by my dad. I used it constantly safely.
When we’d go shooting even when I was too young to shoot it was always safety first and him telling us how to aim and breathe control etc. When I was old enough to actually start shooting the “big guns” I didn’t need any lessons. I’d watched him and my uncles since I was little and even then knew that you don’t point a weapon at anyone even if it’s unloaded, always check to make sure it’s unloaded even if someone else has already checked etc.
8 weeks seems unbelievable for an adult.
