I ain't never heard about active shooters going after a gun range. You'd think such places full of guns would have plenty of crazy shooters shooting up the place, but nope, they don't happen there. If someone was stupid enough to try it, we all know what would happen.
A few months ago I suggested somewhere on Reddit that schools (I was thinking high schools where most school shootings happen) give the teachers access to guns. Now when I think about most of my high school teachers, they're women who would not make good defenders of the class. However, I also recall several boys there who could be handed the gun in an active shooter incident, and they'd try to be a hero.
The thing about trying to be a hero is a matter of statistics and suppressive fire. Let's say you're carrying a Glock 17. Even if you're a terrible shot, the statistical odds of missing 17 times are negligible. Additionally, even if you miss, the suppressive fire of your shitty shooting will keep Murderhobo's head down for a minute or two. Which is valuable time for others to run for safety or help to arrive.
