I have an old style Ruger Blackhawk, a stainless SIX shooter in 45 long colt with a 7 or 7 1/2 inch barrel. Carrying it on my hip feels like I’m carrying a sword. The holster is so long. I love the gun, but the length makes it hard to carry. Any Idea what it would take to get the barrel shortened? Is this even possible? Maybe a machinist could cut the barrel and round/bevel the edges? Then I would just have to get a shorter ejector, which I know they make because they sell Blackhawks in 4 1/2 or 5 inch barrels. Or maybe it’s possible just to get a new barrel altogether? It seems like it’s one piece with the frame but I could be wrong. I don’t really know much about it. If so , is that something I can do myself?
