I have an old style Ruger Blackhawk, a stainless SIX shooter in 45 long colt with a 7 or 7 1/2 inch barrel. Carrying it on my hip feels like I’m carrying a sword. The holster is so long. I love the gun, but the length makes it hard to carry. Any Idea what it would take to get the barrel shortened? Is this even possible? Maybe a machinist could cut the barrel and round/bevel the edges? Then I would just have to get a shorter ejector, which I know they make because they sell Blackhawks in 4 1/2 or 5 inch barrels. Or maybe it’s possible just to get a new barrel altogether? It seems like it’s one piece with the frame but I could be wrong. I don’t really know much about it. If so , is that something I can do myself?

A stainless sex shooter? And you want to cut the barrel off like a degenerate? Blasphemy.

I don't know if it's advisable but I'd say sell it and get what you want. I'm sure such a piece holds it's value well in the right circles.

Yeah A competent gunsmith could shorten it. In my opinion tho you should just buy another in the barrel length you want instead of chopping, it's probably just as expensive too. Or trade/sell your current one to get the cash for a different one. You won't be happy cutting your current one if you really like it as is and besides, it's an excuse to buy another gun!

it will cost a gun smith the same as to buy another revolver.

Contact ruger and see if they can rebarrel it.
