Greater than .22LR, .308 max. I like the ole M1 style look, not 'scary black AR'. American-made (duh). Easy to get ammo for. I really like the Ruger Scout. Also the Mini 14, but the weird safety do-hickey is a turnoff.

I prefer bolt-action over semi-auto bcuz more rugged and less problems.

Edit: thanks for all the input, faguettes.

Didn't Remington go woke last year? I thought I was supposed to hate them now..

I second the Remington just for cost factor and ease of switching things out such as caliber. If you have a printer wou can get this new Henry print done for less than 100 bucks https://pic8.co/sh/XgD1U1.jpg

What do you mean by "switching things out such as caliber"?

Keep in mind that this was over a decade ago that I performed this when I saw this was the easiest option as Remington barrels are rarely just drop in unless you have machinist skills. If you know how to change your oil this method isn't too hard & only cost me about 100 bucks at the time.

There are Savage type barrels for the Remington 700 that use a barrel nut to lock in the proper headspace & the new barrel can be put on at home w/ common hand tools. Basically you screw the Rem-Age barrel in to the proper headspace then lock it in place w/ the barrel nut. The Savage type barrels are also much higher quality barrels than any Remington barrel.

Just looked up the price & it has tripled since I purchased. https://northlandshooterssupply.com/barrels/criterion-barrels-remington-remage/

From their website: "Northland Shooters Supply (NSS) offers prefit NSS Remage barrels by Criterion Barrels, Inc. which are hand-lapped match-grade barrels completely finished and fully chambered. As the name Remage implies, these barrels are a hybrid combination of the Remington Model 700 Rifles and a Savage style barrel nut mounted barrel.

These barrels fit Remington 700 actions and many custom actions with Remington 700 style thread and bolt nose.

Installation is done using the NSS Remage barrel nut and NSS precision ground heavy-duty recoil lug. These barrel nuts are designed to work with the Savage barrel nut wrenches, therefore no special tools are required.

NSS also offers the NSS taper loc recoil lug system and NSS action wrench for the installation of the Remage barrel so you no longer need to pin or notch your action.

Just to clarify, swapping your Remington 700 barrel will no longer require a Gunsmith. An additional added bonus for this system is that you can have multiple interchangeable barrels for the same rifle."

It's hard to keep track. Not sure. But they are good rifles.

Remington went bankrupt and was sold off in pieces. And yes the last bunch of 870's were shit supposedly.
