How much more corrupt and treasonous would the government have to get before people will act? They let them remain legal but use the thought of confiscation to further divide people. Did you see how Nancy Pelosi reacted after January 6th? The government is terrified of people -- specifically, white people -- with AR 15s and other guns. Terrified. They cower in their beds every night, thinking about it. That's why they all have an army of armed security guards and walled enclosures the call their "homes."
