Sure you can waste time and money buying a Glock, dolling it up, pretending the trigger is good and the ergos are alright but never really getting the kind of groups or times you want. Then one day you'll see a CZ on sale and you'll buy it on a whim. Sure CZ has over a hundred years of experience whereas Glock made shovels, but it can't make that much of an difference can it?
Once you shoot it you'll realize Glocks are trash and you've been lying to yourself this whole time.
Save yourself some money and just get a CZ from the start.
This.
My cz shoots magical groups.
I'm saying this as a CZ fanboy who has done trigger work myself on all of my guns.
For the normal hammer fired models (i.e. the ones they've been making for decades and with prices comparable to Glock), CZ triggers suck. Add $300 in parts from Cajun Gun Works (CGW) and they are phenomenal but out of the box they suck.
My P-01 had a DA pull heavier than 12 pounds (max my pull gage reads) and an SA pull of about 6 lbs. After parts, about 8 lbs and 3.5 lbs. That's with the blue spring from CGW. The original reset was also very long. The upgrades reduced the reset significantly.
I had similar very results with my SP-01 though the initial trigger was not as bad. About 11 lbs DA and 5 lbs SA. With upgrades it is about 7.5 lbs DA and 3.5 lbs SA.
A stock Glock is about $600 and parts are cheap and easy to install. A CZ is slightly more expensive and doing the upgrades is much more difficult.
If you compare stricker fired guns like the CZ P-10 series to the Glock, the CZ has a better trigger but if you are going that route, look at the Walther PDP first.
Glocks are good basic guns that have a very very good aftermarket, excellent accessory support, cheap magazines, and basically every single thing you could ask for in customizing and setting up after the purchase. That's what makes them an excellent choice for a first pistol.
Are there better guns than Glocks? Absolutely. The Walther PDP, CZ P-01, CZ P-10, S&W M&P series, all come to mind. Do any of these have remotely comparable aftermarket support? Not at all. Are they as easy to customize? That depends. Can they be customized in as many ways as easily as the Glock? No.
My first was an SP-01 and the trigger was amazing out of the box. Only thing I've ever done to it was a stainless guide rod and the solid firing pin retaining pin. It's absolute tack driver but it's also a boat anchor.
I will agree with you on the decocker guns though. My PCR had the longest heaviest pull on anything I've ever owned till I sent to CGW. And the serrations on the trigger shoe was a war crime.
Glocks do have a ton of after market support and are extremely reliable but there's just too many little things wrong with them for me to really like them. I own a few, but they're just knock around SHTF backup guns.
I agree with your assessment of Glocks. That said, for a new shooter, it's good advice to start with a Glock.
If someone wants to go into detail and write a book, that's where we can get into the nuances that show CZ, Sig, Walther and other makers offer significantly better options than Glock.
