Was debating between a Henry lever action (40-70) or M1A Scout in .308. I've been waiting for a year for my special order mini-14, and I've decided to get the big boy version just to have a rifle on hand, just in case the world pops off. I live in a restricted state so my options are limited.

While this isn't the best gun, it's a reliable, time tested battle rifle that IMO is very capable that I don't have to have any weird restrictions placed on it. I don't expect to shoot anything beyond 500 yards, so I will put a BDC scope on it and keep things simple.

  • Anyone recommend first steps besides doing a full detail lubrication?
  • Recommended tools, accessories, cleaning kit?
  • Recommendations on a BDC scope (traditional scope position) as I won't use the scout rail.
  • I will be taking basic rifle course and take more advanced courses.

Under 500 yards no scope needed just a bb size bead at end of barrel to learn open shots. Get a normal 308 clean8ng k8t. Don't need special classes to learn how to disassemble or reassemble or anything really can find all you need for free online.
