This recent post inspired me to post this. If you own guns you should think about Self Defence Insurance to protect yourself both legally and financially if you ever use your guns for self defence. If you ever have to use it this is the best $10/month you will ever spend.

Not all plans are created equal and here is a a great comparison of some of the plans available: Legal plan comparison from Virginia Citizens Defence League (vcdl.org)

Bet anything like that would be ten times more expensive in California.

Foolish bet considering that the prices are listed on the comparison page I linked. Self Defense Fund, which is the one I think stands out as the best, is $12.50/mo for all 50 states.

Huh. I shouldn't of been lazy.

Kinda surprising to me, though. Insurance premiums are set by risk, so I would expect the membership fee for these services to increase for people living in 2nd Amendment hostile areas.

Statistically legal gun owners are the safest, least criminal citizens. Compared to the number of gun owners there are actually very few defensive uses of force. The per capita numbers are tiny. The price IS tied to the risk and the risk is low.

...And about California... even though they have lot's of gun control, lawyers cost just as much in NY or DC etc. The sad truth is that If you shoot someone in self defence you WILL end up in court no matter what state you are in. Even if you do not get charged criminally the family will sue you and you will have to listen to a sob story from the mom. "He was a good boy. <sob> He just got a job and was turning his life around. <sob> He dinnu nuffin <sob>"
