I typically double up my hearing protection at the range (30 NRR muffs + earplugs = 35 NRR). If I'm doing my math correctly, that should come out to a db reduction of (35 - 7)÷2 = 14. With handguns at indoor ranges being ~160db, how the frack do I not have hearing loss when I'm exposed to ~146db sound every time I go to the shooting range?

OSHA standards top out at 115db, so I'm not certain what to use as a benchmark.

My job hands out earplugs to employees, they are the squishy plug-kind. I compress each plug between my fingers, rolling them as skinny as I can get them, then jam those fuckers way up my ear canals. Ears damn near perfectly sealed, pressure wave can't really penetrate. They work fantastic for me. But clean those things before and after with isopropyl alcohol when shoving them up your ears, don't get yourself an ear infucktion.

Thats how youre supposed to do it. I get them in there so deep i can barely get a pinch on them to pull them out. All the crayon eaters at work, if they bother putting them in at all, barely get them in their ears to where theyre basically not doing shit
