I typically double up my hearing protection at the range (30 NRR muffs + earplugs = 35 NRR). If I'm doing my math correctly, that should come out to a db reduction of (35 - 7)÷2 = 14. With handguns at indoor ranges being ~160db, how the frack do I not have hearing loss when I'm exposed to ~146db sound every time I go to the shooting range?

OSHA standards top out at 115db, so I'm not certain what to use as a benchmark.

IIRC according to Silencershop 140db is ok for no earplugs. Not sure what earplugs you are using that are only 5 NRR most all are around 30 NRR.

When doubling up on hearing protection (earmuffs + earplugs), you take the higher number (my 30 NRR muffs) and add 5 to calculate the combined NRR.

Eh that sounds like bullshit, pun intended. Why 5? It depends on both the earplugs and muffs.

Just pay for the tax stamp and get a suppressor. 140 db is pretty safe, you can get below that with good suppressors, and with earpro and a suppressor you are golden.

Not mention shooting outside. I went to an indoor range twice in my life and both times sucked, and not just because of how loud it was.

Form 4 suppressors are going to E-file soon too. So they are saying it's going to take 6-8 weeks instead of 9-12 months.

lol, I don't know a single gunny who doesn't have hearing damage. Its just the reality of the sport and honestly one of the major reasons the Hearing Protection Act https://www.congress.gov/bill/117th-congress/house-bill/95 needs to literally have everyone's full support.

Call you representative and demand their support for this type of legislation and share it with your friends.

I like going to the range and to raves. I'm fucked. Wear at least some kind of protection at both. Mild tinnitus, usually not noticeable but it flairs up every now and then.

So you are that pink haired faggot who show's up in pajama pants!

You look sickly, no one likes you. Stay in your home, faggot.

I was using my new Walker noise cancelling muffs this weekend. They did OK but it's not what I was expecting. Regular muffs seem better, at least after one trial run. I just got sick of having to constantly say "WHAT?" to range buddies when they were talking to me and I had normal muffs on.

Pretty sure I could perceive the delay in the noise cancellation. I think they should have insulated the shell better.

Edit: but I was also wearing a beanie. The seal around the ear wasn't perfect. Eh.

Uhh thats why you go to an outdoor range.

My job hands out earplugs to employees, they are the squishy plug-kind. I compress each plug between my fingers, rolling them as skinny as I can get them, then jam those fuckers way up my ear canals. Ears damn near perfectly sealed, pressure wave can't really penetrate. They work fantastic for me. But clean those things before and after with isopropyl alcohol when shoving them up your ears, don't get yourself an ear infucktion.

Thats how youre supposed to do it. I get them in there so deep i can barely get a pinch on them to pull them out. All the crayon eaters at work, if they bother putting them in at all, barely get them in their ears to where theyre basically not doing shit

The decibel (dB) is a logarithmic unit used to measure sound level. On such a scale, values that represent a measurement or quantity aren't evenly spaced. Instead, they increase by multiples of a specific number. For the decibel scale, that number is 10.
