Use fmj in the winter. Common knowledge among the .380 crowd since that caliber has more issues with this then the 9mm. Is much less common problem with 9mm. I bet they were using a low recoil, low muzzle flash quick burn powder with a lower velocity.
Those cops had Speer Gold Dot 124gr+p, a highly recommended round and one I stocked up on.
Please keep in mind, +p ammo will put more stress on your hardware. Cops use it because they don't shoot their service pistols often enough to damage it before it gets replaced.
Glocks and Ruger pistols can handle +p. Anyways I don't shoot +p very often mostly standard 124 and 115 range ammo. If I shot those rounds all the time I'd be bankrupt by now.
Neat. One dept i'm familiar with use federal Hydra-Shok 135 gr . Slower and heavier and more succeptable to opening prematurely. Supposedly lower recoil and lower muzzle flash. I hear they are mainly chosen for the low muzzle flash as most police shootings happen at night.
The other dept I'm familiar is using the fed hydra-shock but in .357 sig. They went with that round for the low recoil as the female officers had trouble with the recoil from the 357sig.
I don't know much about 357 sig but it sucks they are fielding rounds based on their equal opportunity force not being able to deal with regular pistols.
Female cops are a terrible idea. Most violent criminals are men and if they get ahold of a chick cop she's most likely not gonna be able to do shit about it.
