He insists that he has seen a suppressed .45 that is virtually silent. The only noise being the action cycling. I say that only exist in hollywood. And yes. I'm aware that .45 is subsonic. I asked a goat that is a combat veteran and handled silenced military weapons. He called bullshit. Your thoughts?

Arguing on the internet is like winning a gold medal in the Special Olympics.

Even if you win, you're still retarded.

You know what the best thing about the special Olympics is? It's so easy to beat a fukn yard and win!

I was going to post . Consider it a gift.

Unless he's firing it with a slingshot it's gonna be over 100 decibles

And the bullshit artist is questioning my intellect, manhood, and geneology

Even a suppressed .22LR pistol has the action sound. The larger you go, the louder it gets.

My thoughts are if your vet friend only handled old military suppressors, then he is missing out on the vastly superior modern cans. I wouldn't call a suppressed .45 "virtually silent", but it's about as quiet as you're going to get outside of .22s because of their relatively low pressure and slow cycling. It won't totally muffle the combustion, and the cycling action on most of the firearms in that caliber (handguns) are still quite noisy. Carbines in .45 such as a suppressed AR variant will generally be even quieter.

I think the truth is somewhere in between on the scale of your argument.

So not silent

No, but about as quiet as you'll get with a decent caliber. Shockingly quiet even, but not silent.

I'm saying 90-100 decibels

The only advantage of silenced weapons is they don't leave a signature. If you fire a shot that breaks the sound barrier it is easily honed into. A silenced weapon you cannot figure out what direction the shot is coming from. This said, a silenced 45 subsonic is quieter that a 22 short. Where as a 7.62 from a bolt gun is similar to a 22 lr

Bullshit. .22 sub is the only one that quiet. From my experience that is, maybe there is a new suppressor that does more

Regardless of whether you are right or wrong on the question at hand, you are wrong for making this thread seeking validation.

Perhaps voat.xyz is a better place to air this.

Well man. That's like your opinion. Man.

A suppressed .45 is going to be completely silent. However, when it is fired it will make some noise. Maybe that's what he means... As long as it is unfired, it will remain silent.

[–] 0 pt

I'm sure that's what shim meant

.45 is not subsonic generically. 5.56 is reasonably quiet with suppressor. Maybe .22 sub is that quiet , I dont know.

All these responses on here don't account for anything. What do you mean by suppressed .45? What type of firing action is this ".45"? How much barrel to suppressor is there? How long or big is the suppressor? What type of suppressor ammo is going to be used or available? This sounds like an unintelligent conversation and your going to get a lot of uninformed internet opinions. Main take away, anything can be silent over the other if tuned to that application. And no hollywood comparisons either, its all post-production sound magic.

Exactly. My entire argument is that there is no such thing as a silent .46
