It is a little more complex than just buying the gun itself lol. But if any of it is too much to think about all at once, just save the links and come back to them when you've had some time to consider your options. And of you end up with other questions, post them too.

In one hour this thread has made me pause big time. This thing is supposed to save my life what a lot of pressure on an item

You are overthinking it and a lot of the poor advice in this thread isn't helping you. You need to shoot multiple guns before you make decision on what you buy. I see that you are into musical instruments. Do you buy them sight unseen based on what random people on the internet say or do you try them out and experiment before you buy?

I couldn't buy an instrument that was being shipped. Not in a million years. Damn.

I live in Chicago and have to leave the city to make the purchase. Irmt has to be fairly swift

In the microphone game when someone asks for a microphone below 500 the splash of cold water is when they find out there is no great microphone below 700

I started out with cheaper guns and when I learned what worked better for me, I spent the money to get one really nice pistol set up how I wanted it. You'll be fine with the more affordable Taurus or Springfield XD, if you can accept the lack of safety selector. Some of the XDs have palm safeties in the grip. You can also choose to carry without a round in the chamber until you're more comfortable with handguns in general.
