I love mine. There is a drawback that i forgot to mention. Like the Glock, the XD has no safety so you may want to look at the double to single action brands, if pistols are new to you. Just a thought.
Not having a safety would blow my mind.
Not really. It is a simple as your finger never goes in the guard, until you are ready to shoot. The movies showing the cops with their index finger straight with the barrel, is actually useful and gets to be habit, if your firearm has no safety.
Your mind is the ultimate safety...
Here's the thing about a safety... You can never rely on it. If you don't mean to shoot, you can't rely on the safety to prevent you from doing so. And if you have an encounter where you need to shoot you have to assume the safety is on and will prevent you from firing.
So if you have to assume the safety is on when you don't want it and have to assume that it is off when you do want it, when is it actually accomplishing anything?
But having a safety is okay if it gets you owning and/or carrying a pistol. My first gun had a safety. It also took me about 6 months to get comfortable carrying with a round chambered. Whatever it takes to get you that hands on experience.
But don't ever try to carry a gun without a good holster. Don't just throw it in a pocket or waistband. It's far too easy for something to get to the trigger and activate it.
