Totally agree. Training for failures is one thing I do regularly, usually when I'm at the range with a buddy.

We mix snap caps in the magazine with live rounds, not letting the other person see what we're doing. Then insert and deal with the 'failure' when it happens. It's not perfect but it's the best we could come up with.

Ok. That's a solid strategy. I may even give that a try.

I religiously dry-fire and action manipulate over and over for each weapon for muscle memory. Your method doesn't sound half bad because it's more chaotic.

I've been working remotely (for the most part) for the past 7 or 8 years. I've developed an at-home training regimen that consists of dry fire, repeated racking with snap caps, and drawing from a holster to rapidly acquire the target.

At the range I start out with dry fire to get the juices flowing, then focus on one of the 'exercises' I've worked out to match the at-home practice. I also am lucky enough to be able to go to a friend's property where we have a ton of room (40+ acres) do do more practical drills. Shooting from cover, shooting on the move, etc.
