I can load 556 for about .12 cents a pop right now. Cast bullet .38 special for about .06 cents each. Definitely worth it.

6 cents for the bullet, plus the powder, plus the primer, assuming you keep your brass and you don't charge for labor.

Primers are in short supply.

I purchased a bunch of the 6000 count boxes of hornady 55 grain bullets years ago when Monmouth reloading had them mispriced. I think I got them for like $300 or $350 each. I’ve also got about 1000 lbs of sailboat keel lead to cast handgun rounds.

That explains a lot, but makes you an outlier. Getting the primers, powder, and bullets now isn't much easier than getting ammo.

Oh, and casting your own? The energy to power the furnace is expensive, too. Even if you gather wood for a camp fire furnace.
