It depends what you're using the rifle for, and 30-30 is a fine choice.
With ammo scarce, something like a .357mag lever action could work with surplus .38spc rounds in a pinch or for practice. Since .44spc isn't as popular as .38spc, I doubt the same reasoning applies for .44mag lever actions, however any magnum lever action could also be paired with a revolver in the same caliber.
