Was thinking 30-30. I've never shot one but it looks like fun.

Worth it?

I have a Marlin 30-30, and it's a lot of fun to shoot. I'd recommend it highly. Solid gun, decent round, great brush gun.

New or old? My new Marlin 336 sucked dick.

I got mine back around 1993 or so. I've never had any issues with it, aside from stupidly disassembling it once, and THEN had to figure out how to put it back together. A lot more complicated than an AR.

Never disassembled mine. Sold it after six months or so. Never buying another newer Marlin.

Newer marlins suck, I've heard shit reviews from a few friends. Buy an older one where you can.

I got a Henry 44 magnum lever action, was so much fun I got a Henry 22LR lever action just to continue the fun but save some dough on rounds :) Plus super handy to have around the farm.

I really recommend putting Henry on your list to consider if you're in the market. Made in USA.

What kind of price range should I expect?

[–] 2 pts

At your local dealer your price may vary, depending on season, sales - and whether Democrats implement policies that causes runs on rifles and prices to skyrocket.

When deciding on which 22 to get we decided on the - lighter, shorter, less expensive, good for general work on the farm, and wife & kid friendly :)

Marlin 336w is my pick

Henry or marlin. 3030 is good but maybe look into .357/ .38 cheaper to shoot and will still kill things good

I want one too, in 30-30. Friend has one, they’re fun.

biden is in charge , no guns allowed

It depends what you're using the rifle for, and 30-30 is a fine choice.

With ammo scarce, something like a .357mag lever action could work with surplus .38spc rounds in a pinch or for practice. Since .44spc isn't as popular as .38spc, I doubt the same reasoning applies for .44mag lever actions, however any magnum lever action could also be paired with a revolver in the same caliber.

Practically? No.

Way more fun than a semi-auto? Yes.

Leaver action is so much fun. It's like the difference between driving an automatic and driving a stick.

I love your answer and comparison to a stick shift. Lever actions aren't the most practical shooting devices, but I don't consider them impractical for certain uses or certain cartridges, particularly vs. a pump or bolt action.

For example, as a .45-70 platform (eg. Bear/Bush rifle), the lever action seems ideal vs. other formats, even perhaps an auto loader.

I prefer my .410 w/ slugs but yeah I'd say it's worth it. They're very satisfying to shoot.

Had a 410 single shot when I was a kid. I'd like to get an AR platform chambered in 410.

I've got a Marlin 30.30 and an Ithica. 22 magnum. Love both of them. If I were to buy a new one I'd go with .44-40 round.

Had a chance to shoot a Winchester lever action 30-30 a few years back. Quality is miles better than Marlin. I would spend the extra money on a Winchester.

Pre 1964 model 94, 30-30 Winchester. Quality was less post 1964. So they say.

I wonder if this is true, or if it's just something old timers say to justify having paid so much fucking money back then. Ever seen really old magazines or comics from the 60's? They have gun adverts in them sometimes and they're like, $200 in 1960's money. If I paid ~$1500 for a budget rifle, I'd also say that it was well made.

The one I shot was new. Looked great, functioned great, and shot straight. As I said in another comment, the Marlin I had sucked cock. Crunchy action, constant failures to feed, seemed like a defective barrel, etc etc.

The extra money on Winchester is around 500$

$500 worth spending.

I would go with Henry for a few less$
