The second amendment has already been neutered to the point it is barely relevant. It was meant to protect well regulated (which in those days meant trained - to be made into regulars where untrained where called irregulars) militias. The military was supposed to be mainly the militias, who would be able to be called up in time of war. The point was the people should have the power to defend their communities from outside threats, as well as tyrranical governments. However this all went away and now we are just fighting for the last shred of the right, to be able to defend ourselves in our own homes. In reality, we should all be going down to the town square twice a month to take all the weapons out of the town armory and do drills.
