Well I mean that. It's very easy to do, but takes ocd if you want it right.
Time is your answer really....take your time and get it right the first time. Not like me as my first I fucked it all up.
Yeah, a friend of mine who did it told me to just get the cheapest shit for the first rough draft, as he to ran into weird issues of derpness, and it's fit and finish is not great... but it does work!
I would really like to do it right. All of my present rifles were made by communists many decades past; they do their jobs well enough, but the AR platform is clearly superior and I covet! On the other hand, for urban warfare situations like our neighborhood god damned well better not become, the shotgun and sidearm may suffice quite nicely. Nothing like a good rifle to reach out from a distance to cure a poor communist of his suffering... in minecraft. And stuff...
Well first you need a drill press, or a router. Many like the router because it is quick and it usually ends up looking good.
Drill press is where you feel the material and get to know what it is you are doing.
You also need to find a jig. I suggest a multi platform like AR10,15, and 9. Gonna be hard to find now because of boomers, but you can.
Always buy billet lowers too. They are just a better material to mill. Spend the money and get carbide steel bits and end mill.
Watch videos and read before you make the first cut. Also have a shop vac ready as the chips are a bitch. Wear long pants and work boots with the pants outside the boot and long sleeve shirt.
Don't you use oil either unless you brush it on the bit...never into the cut as it makes a mess and chips make into a ball.
Use air to evacuate the cuts of chips often or vaccum it out.
I have a Cisco 2600 router with the DSU/CSU card for a T1 line.
P.S: Awesome tips. That oil bit is a particularly excellent point as I would have automatically assumed oil is better and made a big horrible mess!
I just passed up an opportunity to get a bitchin big old drill press, damn me anyway. I just don't have room for it in the garage with all of Ma's junk junking up the place... I should have just gotten it and evicted some of her damned junk!
