You got to like the way Russian fire-arms are evolutionary. This thing probably has 95% interchangeable parts with an AK from the 60's.

Russian arms are amazing. Of course there's things I would optimize for Western usage, but their designs are fantastic and usually ahead of their time.

The firearms are robust. AK's are used by the third world because Sambo and Mohammad wouldn't be able to maintain an M4. The stuff can take abuse and neglect right up to fighter aircraft level. There's a vid with a Russian airfield vs US airfield, where the Americans clean and clear all areas so there's no loose debris ingestion risk, the Russians don't care about minor details like that.

They do require semi-regular disassembly and cleaning. You also can't use the M4 stock as a club as the buffer extension would break. So there are rules on how to operate them.

I think this might be more about how either country sources their aircraft. Americans are probably more concerned about aircraft longevity because they are spending shitloads of money on them. Turbines generally don't do well with foreign objects or debris. I bet the Russians are probably getting their aircraft for closer to the actual parts value instead of getting bent over like the Americans.
