I'm coming down to Texas to say my good byes as I will bring my cargo trailer up to Fort Collins and from there to move to Idaho. Will be hosting a Goats of the Gulch meetup at my Van Horn land. Which, I would consider selling for a good price, otherwise will hold onto it for a while.

Planning to leave Fort Collins on the 11th, head to Van Horn, then to San Antonio. Will go to the Harvest Classic in Luckenbach and spend time with friends.

Hopefully this one will have a amateur radio presense. At a minimum, UHF or VHF simplex (there's no repeaters that make it out to Van Horn as far as I can tell). Would love to do HF as well if I can get the gear (and maybe licensing).

Certain topics / ideas for the weekend:

  • Shooting, of course.
  • Camping.
  • Eating.
  • Riding motorcycles.
  • Watching for illegals. Setting up a web camera? Thermal Imaging? etc. Would be cool, but not likely.

Let me know if you can make it out. PM me if you need address details. Contact information (cell phone, amateur radio, or both) would be good.

I guess it's more the drive from Colorado to San Antonio via Amarillo vs going through Van Horn. It's extremely flat and boring out in Amarillo. And Lubbock is awful, too. Sometimes you'll get blizzards and high winds, all while being flat and boring. I've hit worse weather in Lubbock/Amarillo than I have in New Mexico and Colorado in Febuary, but maybe that was just bad luck.

Yeah weather is always a concern out in West Texas.

At least going through Van Horn it's pretty. Super, super windy up near Guadalupe park so not idea if on a motorcycle or with a big trailer. The drive does get boring in SE New Mexico as well.

Craziest rain storm I've ever been in was between Van Horn and Fort Stockton.

Worst one I was ever in was the middle of Nebraska. I had to pull over to the side of the road. Couldn't see a damn thing.
