Indeed, I was about to go for it but decided not to.
If my parents like the area and want to retire, I'll most likely move out there to one of the towns. From there, will keep looking for off the grid land and options that way.
If I had been homesteading out of Van Horn it would've been really, really rough and held me back in work and other areas. I think there's much better places to live out there, so would like to explore other options and compare.
