China has used this tactic before, they bought up such a huge amount of linksys routers then modified their physical hardware, many huge US companies unknowingly had these modified routers which helped w/ China's ongoing and massive campaign to steal intellectual property and spy. Western politicians play stupid when their hand gets caught in the cookie jar of the country that's fucking em... For most western politicians acting in their own national self interest is a foreign concept unless they're being paid to do so.
