He didn't try to "capture the whole thing", it was a diversion to create an opening, to split ukranian forces, pretty much like you would use a jab right before a body blow, forcing your adversary to raise his guard and leave his flank open, same deal

And that's the best case scenario for everybody, worst case scenario it degenerates into ww3 and ICBMs start flying ultimately. I tend to believe cooler heads will prevail, but this is clownworld and the US pres is likely illegitimate btw, so all bets are off
Now imagine what it's going to be like for russia to administrate the entirety of ukraine; what do you do with the ukrainian army? The police? How do you run the economy in a permanent state of insurgency? How much is it going to cost to the russian economy? What about the UN which will certainly not recognize urkaine as russian territory since I don't see zelensky signing a peace treaty where he literally hands the entirety of the country to russia?
