Diversion, the goal has always been to capture the regions, the 20% on that map, not the entirety of ukraine because it would be utterly untenable both militarily and politically
There is no way to win the war without occupying the entire ukraine. And "utterly untenable"??? WTF are you talking about. You know-nothings just spout that kind of crap with no idea what you're really saying. The ukraine is rightfully Russian and has been controlled by Russia for centuries with a brief exception. Why would it be a problem to return to the historical norm?

He can annex ukrainian territories neighboring russia's borders yes, ukrainian territories with ethnic or linguistic russian majority (in red in the map above) and that's exactly what he did
Because those populations were ethnically targeted/persecuted by kiev who wanted to ban russian language in those areas (among other things) right before the war started
Then why did he try to capture the whole thing(capital) initially?
