They can't and zelensky knows this
What are they going to do? Boycott ukraine? Support russia? Negotiate with russia without ukraine's approval?
Off zelensky/replace the puppet by a new one? And for what? To give putin what he wants?
Once again the west seems trapped in a catch22 of its own making
The west is desperate for a way out of this mess the created. Zelenksky has run out of options and the pressure from the collective west will be coming down on him to force a negotiation with Russia.
I think zelensky vastly over estimates the west's capability to force anything on russia. He seems to believe the west is actually in a position to impose anything on russia, while in reality, they just can't afford to let the current situation remain as it is, to begin with
So he's like "I'm blocking this situation as it is, it's painful for everybody, I know, and that's precisely why I'm doing it. Once you guys finally decide you had enough, you'll have no choice but to start to kick russian asses!"
Something along those lines
And that's how ukraine gets dumped under the bus (by the west), that's how it ends for ukraine
