"Well regulated" as mentioned in the 2A, means well-drill / well-trained. The idea was for the citizenry to not only be armed, but capable of fighting if necessary.

Two things happened in the 1970s that killed the 2A purpose aside from private ownership of firearms.

1) The Draft ended. 2) End of segregation in schools.

In the 1980s liberals started "gun free zones" in the major cities and implemented gun bans. TV shows like "law and order" have been pushing the idea that it is illegal to own a gun despite the reality. During Katrina Dubya the Inbred allowed gun grabs (or at least did nothing to stop it) by the cops in New Orleans and most of those guns were taken from WHITES, not blacks. I can keep going on but gun ownership is being chipped away.
