When I first visited China the residential areas had walls around them and "guards" at the entrance points. Right next to them would be other areas of similar wealth/poorness with the same setup. At the time I was told it was to stop thieves, and after 11:00PM people would have to show ID to pass through, but even then I found that reasoning to be specious.
Now things have softened quite a bit and more people are living in much higher buildings without fences, and you might think it's good to leave the control of the government. Normally you would be right, but the pervasive chink and gook attitudes even in the West have them go out for leisure, knowing they are sick, to swimming pools, badminton courts, and so on. They are anything but "ant" people, they are absolutely selfish.
