Oh I remember that. Not sure I'd classify that as a meme, and I can sort of see the issue. Trying to tell people you can vote via text message doesn't fall under humorous fun. It's kind of like falsely screaming fire in a theater. But I also think the punishment was way too extreme

I don't see that as a meme. I wouldn't care WHICH side it was, if you tell people to vote in a way that they can't, that's a crime. You can argue intelligence all day on this, and that it's an obvious spoof (which it is), but if it can cause disruption in the vote, it's election interference.
