I did some flying recently. The first flight was inside America, and I had an empty seat next to me. Two seats over was a middle-aged, normal fat woman. I mean normal by American norms. Next I was going to Asia and the plane was full of Asians. Again, it was a normal fat Asian woman. Sometimes she made it hot and smelt bad, but I was mostly happy to have someone next to me who could speak English very well. The next flight was in Asia and everyone was human sized. I was literally concerned about a lard barge ending up with an assigned seat next to me. On the return flight in America, I had a not skinny dude next to me. I wouldn't call him fat, so no problem.
I was in Vietnam and the only fat ass I saw was some white chick, most likely American, European, or Australian.
They have a weight limit with carryon. If I'm 150lbs and the next guy is 300lbs, they should have to pay for my luggage and theirs should be stored. They measure that stuff. If your blubber sags into the seat next to you that should be a 2 seat payment for them.
I am a fat man. Very fat. Fat enough that I'll buy two airplane seats rather than inconvenience some poor person who would have to sit next to me.
The airlines really don't help though. I once had the gate agent try to sit me in two different parts of the plane simultaneously.
He doesn't sound necessarily based, just practical. A ticket that cost $500+ and got a 20% discount for being squeezed into his own seat? Seems reasonable.
"I told the guy, 'Look, I’ll put up with this if you give me $150 — that’s half the cost of this flight and that would compensate me enough for the circumstances'. He instantly agrees, pulls out cash and pays me. He even told me he appreciated it." Follow the Mirror US News page on Facebook
Disgusted, other passengers started voicing their opinions on the cruel man's offer, saying it's rude to force him to pay extra to suit another person's comfort. "The people sitting behind me, who keep in mind didn’t volunteer to sit by him, were making under their breath comments about me being an a**hole for doing that," he added.
What the other passengers really meant to say was "why didn't we think of that?"
has some reasonable comments.
