You have make sure to set the furnace to "Extremely Obese" before starting the burners. Then, no problem.
Could blow up the furnace due to all the fat.
They are called wickers. Typically the retort is ran for a short period of time (ie: 1hr). Then they are left to burn on their own fat for ideally 2hrs-ish. Then the retort is restarted and the process is finished traditionally.
If this doesn't happen and/or they are not in a retort with safeguards, their liquefied fat will begin to seep. Once it gets outside the door of the retort it can cause a huge mess best case. Or it can actually burn a place down.
There are typically standards for an area that houses retorts to mitigate that threat but you'd be surprised how many old places are burning bodies in a tinder box.
Also, retorts have weight limits. If you are let's say 600+lbs. You would require a retort designed for larger things.
Also, equipment like dolleys become and issue after a certain weight.
The legistics of just putting a hard cardboard cylinder under a box to push someone in becomes a lot less feasible with weight.
There is a lot that goes into the process but yea that's a good run down for ya.

That would be a fun conversation to listen to. "Your wife is going to need to go to the zoo for cremation. They're used to handling things the size of rhinos and hippos. If you didn't want her disposed of like an animal then you should have fed her out of a trough like an animal."
Lol yea would be pretty epic. Most larger cities have different retorts and typically a good place with have one designed for large loads.
I'd imagine most states have laws on not processing human and animal remains in the same retort. They have certifications and inspections where I was working at.
However, there are places that specialize in large animal retorts etc... There are units out there even capable of processing horses.

I believe those are called Taco Bells.
Damn you actually had the answer! Thanks
Ran a retort for a summer gig once. Have a good one.
Are you a coroner or some shit
Worked as a "grounds keeper" for a summer at a small cemetery in a more rural community.
I was responsible for a lot of random stuff regarding cemetery life.
Digging graves, interring bodies both in vaults and in the ground, pouring concrete vaults, mowing, weed whacking hundreds of headstones, processing bodies through the retort, looking up burial plots for visitors, fixing equipment, watering the grounds, fixing water line breaks, fixing headstones, etc...
Pretty much anything that deals with a cemetery or running a retort.
It was honestly one of the cooler jobs I've had. Tons of time to yourself, lots of hard work in the outdoors. Always just enough of something different to keep you distracted but not overwhelmed.
Ever have a body fall out a coffin or other weird stories
Possible uncontrollable grease fire. The facility is at risk. Fire department on notified standby?
You know the end of Ghostbusters
Have you ever felt the pop of hot grease from a skillet? Now image a porker sized roman candle full of the stuff.
Free smells
I think they need to chop up the corpse and put it in piece by piece first because of a potential grease fire.
a grease fire
No need to plan that far ahead, we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.
