What is it with people saying their "authentic self?" I'm mentally ill and I don't want people knowing that, so I try to act normal out in public: I pretend to identify as trans, I wear 2 masks and a face shield in public, I have a Biden/Harris bumper sticker on my car with an old Hilary for president sticker. If I see "I did that stickers" and people are in ear shot, I yell, "I can't believe people disrespect our president like this." I would be totally embarrassed if people knew I was ill.
