I think they got rid of the underweight requirement in the latest DSM, unfortunately. Too many fatties wanted the diagnosis like a badge of honor, and the medical industry gave into their delusion because they’ll make more money. I double checked and it’s true actually, they made exceptions for people not underweight, one of which is just not being happy with how you look. I swear we live in clown world, this is so dumb. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK519712/table/ch3.t15/

Restriction of energy intake relative to requirements, leading to a significant low body weight in the context of the age, sex, developmental trajectory, and physical health (less than minimally normal/expected1).

Based off the new requirements being on a diet is considered anorexia, which becomes a problem. There's a difference between calorie restrictions from dieting, and calorie restrictions from anorexia, but it looks like DSM lumps them together now

Intense fear of gaining weight or becoming fat or persistent behavior that interferes with weight gain.

This is a weird one, since a LOT of diseases, including cachexia would classify someone in this category. Second one can have a fear of gaining weight whilst doing absolutely fuck all to stop themselves from gaining weight.

Actually the new definition is crap, since it more closely mirrors general anxiety about eating, and not the chronic, deadly disease anorexia is. People used to and still do die from under nourishment in Anorexia, but now those people will get zero resources made available to them.
