People with discipline sometimes forget just how futile it is to try to get other people to have the same kind of discipline. They think people should jump directly from zero to hero by flipping a switch and changing their mentality on the spot.
Most people I know who successfully got themselves back into shape, or into shape for the first time, started by completely fucking it up. The remarkable thing was that they actually tried when 99% of people don’t. They should be encouraged even if they screw up. Even if they were a complete klutz at the gym and still eat things they aren’t supposed to, things that they think are healthy but aren’t, they’ll figure it out if they just keep going. Someone who is morbidly obese drops 100 pounds and then they want to keep going so they learn more, that’s usually the scenario plays out in real life.
If you wait until you have all the information before you get started, you never get started. If you wait until all of your questions are answered before you start something new, you’ll never start.
It’s just as true in sales and marketing and in business as it is in weight loss. They can learn more about body recomposition as we go along, let’s at least get them to empty out most of the pantry and to do a better job at the grocery store of making conscious choices. Those are the people that succeed, and I know that there are some exceptions. People who immediately are excellent at the drop of a hat.
But let’s be honest, most of us know by instinct what they are supposed to do. Almost everyone knows enough to at least not be a ham planet. Anyone who says they don’t “know enough” to improve their situation is just using that as an excuse.
