Last time I checked the obesity rate in the US was like 36%. Now it's 42%. Some sources say 40%. That's just the obesity rate too, if you include overweight it's over 70%. What the hell is wrong with people? Why is this not being addressed, instead of the whole world's panicking over a stupid virus? This should be top priority for any politician who wants to prevent people from dying prematurely. Sugar taxes and food laws are just as controversial as lockdowns and mask mandates, if government gets a say in everyone's health I want this dealt with. It's a drain on society and government insurance shouldn't allow them to live past what they should or help them reproduce. That's a waste of hospital resources we're supposedly so short on. I mean if you're dumb enough to eat yourself to death I don't really care if you win a Darwin award, that's on you. But I don't want to live in a society full of fat people either, it's obnoxious and depressing. I knew obesity rates weren't likely to improve but I'm so mad to see how much it went up. I want friends who aren't fats, drug addicts or smokers. I know this isn't addicthate but they're as bad as fats and half the thin people I talk to end up being addicts. I won't allow those idiots near my family either. My pool of potential friends is shrinking more and more every year, faster than I realized. I don't want to be around fat, degenerate morons at all but it's starting to be impossible to avoid them. I don't want to be a hermit either, I can't win here. This sucks. :/

because that a reductionist take on it, its right but its far more complicated than that, you just took the 5 min tldr version of nutrition and stopped learning more

nothing is as simple as you make this out to be and acting like it is just causes problems

shit is complicated, you might need to make little easy to remember catching lines to understand the world but dont be fooled in to think thats how the world actually works, just like a recipe, anyone can follow a recipe, an intelligent person understands the variation in the ingredients means the recipe may needs adjusting based on stuff like the starchiness of the potato or the heat of a chilli

How about they try the simple stuff first? How about they do try to just, I don’t know, eat a little less first? Try it out. Maybe drop from 300 pounds to 250 pounds and then decide if they want to learn more to get into even better shape? You’re talking about nuance when we’re dealing with people who just don’t stop stuffing their face all day.

Try that first.

Just put down the Doritos and the Oreos. Then we will worry about macros and discuss how overrated cardio is. And a whole host of other things. Let’s trim your grocery bill from $250 a week to $150 a week because you’re picking up salmon and lean chicken instead of Pringles and grabbing Arby’s on the way home.

that is where people fail, its super easy to lose weight with IF or keto, keto is even more efficient because your body uses more energy(about 200-300 a day so over a lb every 12 days) but the way you are suggesting is just not going to work for most people, yes it is a will power issue but have a look at a how blood sugar effects will power https://www.humnutrition.com/blog/how-blood-sugar-affects-food-cravings/ im not just talking out of my arse here, there is a scientific knowledge relating to dieting that is poorly understood by your average person and generally not in any way involved in most common diet plans because the people making them want them to stay dieting and them braking down and snacking just means they failed, not the diet program

think of it like the way you lift vs crossfit, one of you is going to have a much easier time building muscle, just reducing your caloric intake when you are super fat is the crossfit of dieting, its ignoring all of the small effects that you can use to speed up your progress(speaking off, your last set should be to failure and then to failure again with your spotter, a lot of people fail to do this and wonder why they stop making progress and its why lifting and calisthenics are on equal footing to lifting, its not how much you lift is how much you damage your muscles)

Thing is, the sheeple don't need the complicated version and by giving them a more complicated version they just switch off and say "It's all too hard!" and then blame their obesity on anything but their lack of impulse control.

People with discipline sometimes forget just how futile it is to try to get other people to have the same kind of discipline. They think people should jump directly from zero to hero by flipping a switch and changing their mentality on the spot.

Most people I know who successfully got themselves back into shape, or into shape for the first time, started by completely fucking it up. The remarkable thing was that they actually tried when 99% of people don’t. They should be encouraged even if they screw up. Even if they were a complete klutz at the gym and still eat things they aren’t supposed to, things that they think are healthy but aren’t, they’ll figure it out if they just keep going. Someone who is morbidly obese drops 100 pounds and then they want to keep going so they learn more, that’s usually the scenario plays out in real life.

If you wait until you have all the information before you get started, you never get started. If you wait until all of your questions are answered before you start something new, you’ll never start.

It’s just as true in sales and marketing and in business as it is in weight loss. They can learn more about body recomposition as we go along, let’s at least get them to empty out most of the pantry and to do a better job at the grocery store of making conscious choices. Those are the people that succeed, and I know that there are some exceptions. People who immediately are excellent at the drop of a hat.

But let’s be honest, most of us know by instinct what they are supposed to do. Almost everyone knows enough to at least not be a ham planet. Anyone who says they don’t “know enough” to improve their situation is just using that as an excuse.
