It's not a real picture, per se, but a computer generated image based on data collected (moving stars and their trajectories) over the years.
Yes a picture based on interferometry. Still a resolved picture. OP called it fake, which it clearly isnt.
I wouldn't call it fake too, but it technically isn't a "real" picture either.
The picture isn't even in visible light. It's radio astronomy.

Well its not light sensitive silver salts on plastic film, but thats hardly the definition of picture in todays age of chips and software.
