As much as I like this particular (pebble bed) design, it has a lot of hurdles that will limit it's long term viability. The largest issue is the fuel itself. Being less energy dense, and more costly to make, it will eat into the profits as well as limit the power that a plant can make. All of the Gen 4 designs have problems, and I'm not sure if the walk away safety is gonna overcome the economics of it. Gen 3 is 99% safe, and must less costly to run. Hell, Canadian designs are set up to use everything to low/no enrichment Uranium to hot waste products, and due to the way the rods are inserted, is much harder to melt down than you'd think.
