There's a hotel along I-70 at Ohio exit 169 (OH83.) It was built without grid connection. Sounds good until you see it has 6 large banks of panels + a wind turbine to power it. That's one small building.
The power consumption from that hotel would have been equivalent of finding a nickel in the couch with a coal plant.

I imagine they have both wind and sun because neither are anywhere close to 100% reliable, especially in Ohio. Sunshine is a mythical beast at times.
